You can either use Siri to create contact relationships or manually add them to the Contacts app by following the instructions below.
By adding their proximity to you on your iPhone, you can further personalize your contacts. How to do that is shown here. You can keep your contacts’ phone numbers, emails, and other contact details organized and simple to find in the Contacts app.
Here’s how to add a relationship to contact and how to remove one.
How to Add a Contact Relationship on iOS Using Siri?
- On your iPhone or iPad, hold down the Home button (or the Side button if your iOS device doesn’t have one), or say “Hey Siri” to invoke the assistant hands-free.
- Say the name of the contact and your relationship with them, such as “Hannah is my sister.” (If you have two sisters, you can help Siri distinguish them by saying “Hannah is my older sister,” for example.)
How to Add a Relationship Manually in the Contacts App?
The Contacts app’s card is where you add a relationship to a contact rather than in that contact’s contact card. Here’s how to set it up.
- Open the Contacts app
- Tap on your profile at the top of the contacts list titled “My Card”
- Tap Edit in the upper right of the screen
- Scroll down until you see Related Name under Add Date
- Tap on Add Related Name
- Type in the name of the contact you want to set a relationship to
- Tap on the title of the contact next to their name on the left of it
- You can either select a pre-created name or create a custom one of your own
- After selecting the title, tap on the “I” button to the right next to the name
- This will allow you to connect everything to the actual contact
- Your contacts list will appear. Find and select the contact you want to connect with.
- Tap Done on the upper right of the screen when everything is to your liking
The relationship you assigned to the contact can now be used to locate them in the future.
How to Delete a Relationship on iOS?
It is essentially the same process for adding a relationship to someone as it is for deleting or changing an existing one. Here’s a guide on how to end or modify a relationship.
- Open the Contacts app
- Tap on your profile card at the top of the contacts list
- Tap Edit on the upper right of the screen
- Scroll down to Related Names under Add Date
- Tap on the red circle with a line in it (on the left of the contact) and select Delete, when the option slides out from the right side
- Tap Done on the upper right of the screen when all is complete
At any time, relationships can be removed or added again.
Conclusion: Keeping Relationships Strong
When you add a contact to your iPhone, you can communicate with them more easily using Siri or the Contacts App.
Adding relationships to contacts is a great way to give the people you are closest to, like family or friends, more personality. Your phone will recognize who you are referring to if you add their real names to your Contacts and use their relationship to you when you address them.
